Miyuki Oka

Born 1994, Sapporo, Japan. Graduated from Hokkaido University, Faculty of Agriculture, and completed MA at Royal College of Art, UK. Focusing on the context deconstructed and meaning generated by the reordering of things, she creates installations and videos, as well as experimental design and performative interventions. Recent solo exhibitions include ‘borrowed sleep / taking photos (000000-235959, 20210224-20230224)’ (BUoY Arts Center Tokyo, 2023), and group exhibitions ‘Theater der Welt (United Institute)’ (Hafen 2 / Museum Angewandte Kunst, Frankfurt, 2023), ‘Künstlerische Projekte rund um den Olympiasee’ (Olympiapark, 2022) and ‘With Others at a Long Distance’ (Sapporo Cultural Arts Community Center SCARTS, 2021).

The main interest of my practice is to use the way computers perceive the world to see the real, continuous time and space as a mass of discrete, interconnected data. In doing so, my work seeks to deconstruct the already existing political narratives and produce a more material and concrete poetry.
